Rules and Regulations
|
|
Following is the code of conduct for individual users of the trails.
- Be
Courteous: This
is a multi-user trail system. All trail users should be respectful of
other users, regardless of their mode of travel, speed, or level of skill.
Maintain a safe and controlled speed at all times. Be especially alert to
users with special needs.
-
Keep to the Right and Pass on the Left:
Always stay to the right as you use the trails. Pass others going in your
direction on their left. Look ahead and behind to make sure that your lane
is clear before you go out and around the other users. Pass with ample
separation. Do not move back to the right until you have safely gained
distance and speed on the other users. Faster traffic should always yield
to slower and oncoming traffic.
-
Give an Audible Signal when Passing:
All users should be courteous and give a clear warning signal when
approaching from behind. This signal may be produced by voice, bell or
soft horn. Give others ample time to respond. Voice signals might include
“Passing on your left!”
- Do
not Block the Trail:
When in a group, including your pets, use not more than half the trail
width, so as not to block the flow of other users. If users approach your
group from either direction, form a single line or stop and move to the
far right edge of the trail or off the trail to allow safe passage by
these users.
-
Obey Signage:
Always stop for traffic at roadways and intersections! When entering or
crossing the trail at trailhead or other uncontrolled intersections, yield
to traffic already using the trail.
-
Adhere to Trail Hours:
Hours of operation were established for a reason: SAFETY! The trails are
open dawn to dusk, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Use after hours is
prohibited.
- Be
Alert: Do not
use this Trail under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
-
Clean up Your Litter:
Please keep the trails clean and neat for other users to enjoy. Please
clean up after your pets. Pet clean up bags are available at the Depot.
Pick up whatever someone else may have left on the trails and place trash
is receptacle.
-
Keep Pets on Leashes:
All pets must be kept on short, secure and tethered leashes at all times.
Keep pets under your immediate control and off of adjacent private
property.
-
Camp Fires Not Permitted:
Fires, for any purpose, are prohibited within the Cardinal Greenways trail
system. Any person caught lighting a fire for any purpose will be
prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
-
Prohibited Uses of the Trail:
Motorized vehicles, including snowmobiles and ATV’s are prohibited from
use on the trails, except for vehicles belonging to or authorized by
Cardinal Greenways, which will be appropriately identified, or for
emergency vehicles. Hunting from the trails or from other property managed
by Cardinal Greenways is strictly prohibited and will be prosecuted to the
fullest extent of the law.
-
Show Respect:
Respect the privacy of adjacent landowners and do not enter their property
for any purpose. Many native plants and wildflowers grow along the trails.
Please don’t pick, trample or disturb them. Graffiti or damage to trail
property costs money to repair and those responsible for defacing or
damaging trail property will be prosecuted.
***If
you see someone violating any of these rules, please inform the trail user
of the rules, if appropriate, or notify the Greenway staff so that they can
address the situation appropriately.
