After a rainy, cool week the weather cooperated offering our participants a beautiful, crisp Fall day for our Red-tail Run for the Season - our final run for the 2009 series. The event was presented by the Cardinal Greenway and Red-tail Conservancy. Sponsors for the event included Muncie Sanitary District Recycling Initiative Stormwater Management-Muncie and Delaware County and WGE Federal Credit Union. The sixty-five Run/Walk participants gathered bright and early at the Red-tail Nature Preserve to run and walk on the Greenway trail through the colorful countryside in Delaware and Henry County and finished back at Red-tail by the hawk sculpture. An enthusiastic crowd of spectators and volunteers cheered the participants as they crossed the finish line. First place overall winners, John Mickle and Amanda Holzhausen, received a lovely bird houses handmade and designed by Barry Banks of Red-tail Conservancy. Second and third place winners received a handcrafted picture frame designed by the Artist Within. Age group winners in each category received a toboggan with both the Cardinal Greenways and Red-tail Conservancy logo. All participants received running gloves and everyone in attendance had a chance to win one of the many door prizes which featured a "fall theme". Thanks to Julie Pierce and the Anderson Road Runners for supplying the fun door prizes for the event. I want to thank the run committee for their hard work, dedication and many hours spent on this year's Run for the Season Series. Committee members include: Jerall Ross, Jamie Banks, Cathie Miller, Bob Huston, Julie and Jerry Pierce. The runs have been a huge success and the committee is geared up to make the 2010 Series better than ever. We are also very thankful for the many volunteers who have helped us during the run series. |
