Our Future

Cardinal Greenways will span East Central Indiana. The trail system will be continuous, without breaks, and will eventually link to trails in Illinois and Ohio. This system will be easy to reach, easy to navigate, and safe thanks to regular maintenance, sound security, and the use of connections to community destinations along the route. As a public resource, Cardinal Greenways will offer education and wellness programs for a wide range of audiences.

Since our inception, a dedicated group of people has worked hard to accomplish our goals and to move us to where we are today. Throughout the years, more and more people have shared their expertise and talents to help the organization move forward. Almost 250,000 people use the greenways annually. We have built 41 miles of trail and have additional awards pending. We have a series of annual events that welcome specific audiences – walkers, runners, cyclists, horseback riders and families. We have an active Board of Directors leading the organization and a small, but very capable staff focusing on a variety of duties. Almost 350 volunteers serve on committees, perform trail maintenance, secure the trail, and welcome newcomers.

Our Strategic Plan outlines our goals for the future and provides the tools needed to accomplish our goals. Our reputation, expertise, and experience enable us to help other trail entities across the state. Our future, along with the future of those who use the trails, looks bright.
