About Us

Dear Trail Enthusiast:

When people in our community are asked “What does this community have that other surrounding communities do not have?” Most people would probably answer, “Ball State University”.  Instead, wouldn’t it be great if they said, “the Cardinal Greenways?”  Our trail system is one of the finest in the state of Indiana because of our wonderful donors and volunteers, but with your help, we can make it one of the best and most well-known in the Midwest.  This can happen only with your support.

As Governor Mitch Daniels was speaking at an event recently, he not only praised the trails in Indiana, but he also praised our local trails. Governor Daniels said, “Indiana does not have water or mountains to attract visitors to our state to enjoy, but we do have wonderful trail systems, and Cardinal Greenways is one of the best”. Gone are the days when only local people use our trails.  Now, people from all over the United States and Canada are making their way to our community specifically to use our trails!  Just last week I was at the depot and a group came in from Michigan to use the trail.  They came to Muncie just to enjoy a nice long ride on the Greenway!  While they were preparing for their ride, another group from out of state called to get directions and information on other activities, events, eateries, and hotels in the area that they could enjoy while here using the Greenway!  So, after fifteen years of existence, the Cardinal Greenways have gone from just local trails to ones that people from all over the United States and Canada come here specifically to use!

As the 2008 annual co-chairs we would like to thank all of the many volunteers and donors who have generously given their support to the Cardinal Greenway throughout the past fifteen years.  We would also like to ask everyone to think about a specific time (or times) that they use the trails for exercise, meditation, to enjoy nature or just to take a walk with a friend or family member.  Without donations of money and time, this would not be possible.  That’s why we are asking each of you to continue to support this great system through your continued giving.  We are also asking each of you to accept a challenge to increase your donation this year by 15% in honor of our 15th anniversary.  We are sure  we can all agree that the trail has been enjoyed more each year during these past fifteen years!

As the Greenway continues to grow and more people enjoy using it every year, so does the cost to maintain and grow the Greenway.   We have achieved many of the goals and dreams that were established fifteen years ago, but to see our new growth plan to its fruition we need your support.  Please consider accepting my challenge and give generously.  Remember  all of the wonderful things the Greenway represents in our community and help us make a difference, today, tomorrow and in the future.  Cardinal Greenways is connecting one community to another and is bringing visitors to Muncie in a new and exciting way.  With your help, when people are asked what we have that other communities don’t  have, they will say – the Cardinal Greenways.    Thanks in advance for your donation and for your continued support of Cardinal Greenways!

Sincerely,
